SAI PROFESSIONAL KOBUDO, solid wrought iron, octagonal, black, red or blue string grip or wooden grip, pair. Different sizes. Handmade in Europe with long lathe turning (not casted iron), treated with Black oxide coating. Black oxide coating is a procedure used to provide corrosion resistance to iron parts and it is treated with oil afterwards to maximize corrosion resistance. One of its advantages over other coatings is its minimal buildup. This allow sai to produce a “ringing” sound after hitting each other. Another advantage is that there will be no chipping or flaking on paint, when Sai are used in bunkai and kumite. Iron Sai should be treated with thin engine oil (like the oils used for guns or sewing machines) from time to time to extend corrosion resistance. Handle can be rope covered in 3 different colours - red, blue or black or wooden (specially treated). The most common sizes are S (length = 42 cm), M (length = 47 cm) and L (length = 52 cm). Each Sai weighs between 600 and 750 grams approximately.
